About
Suchet Rao, MD, is the medical director of psychiatry and behavioral health at the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), and a clinical assistant professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry. Dr. Rao is the former secretary of the Tri-State Chapter of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and is involved in various New York City workgroups and committees focused on improving access to mental health care for minors and underserved populations. He has lectured and published articles on legal, ethical and clinical issues relating to the psychiatric care of children in the welfare system. Since joining ACS in 2016, Dr. Rao has developed guidelines for the monitoring of prescribed psychiatric medication, and policies for improving the process for obtaining informed consent for psychiatric medication prescribed to children in ACS custody. He also serves as an attending psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital Center, and as the psychiatric consultant for an alternative-to-incarceration program for teens in New York City.
