WriteGirl/Bold Ink Writers

About

WriteGirl is a Los Angeles-based creative writing and mentoring organization that pairs underserved teen girls with professional women writers for one-on-one mentoring, genre-specific workshops, public readings, publications, and college and scholarship application assistance. Founded in 2001, WriteGirl has maintained a 100% success rate in helping its seniors not only graduate from high school, but also enroll in college. WriteGirl received national attention in 2021 when WriteGirl alumna Amanda Gorman captivated the nation with her poetry performance at the Biden-Harris Inauguration. In 2013 WriteGirl was recognized by Michelle Obama with the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award for its success inspiring thousands of underserved teens to enroll in college. WriteGirl also works with boys and co-ed groups under the name “Bold Ink Writers.” As a founding member of the Arts for Healing and Justice Network (AHJN), Bold Ink Writers brings creative writing workshops and mentors to youth who are incarcerated and systems-impacted or critically in need of support.
