Julie Cohen, LMFT

About

Julie Cohen is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and a child mental health specialist. Julie has worked in community mental health in Los Angeles County for 30 years. Throughout that time, she has been a therapist, program coordinator, clinical supervisor, and program director. Julie has spent nine years working in Full Service Partnership (FSP) programs. Having collaborated with DMH and managing a team of clinicians, case managers, and parent advocates, she has a deep understanding of not only how FSP works, but also the unique challenges and needs of the staff as well as clients.

Julie’s early training focused on trauma recovery. She served as the director of clinical services at a community-based domestic violence shelter and counseling center. As director, she created one of the first counseling programs in the United States to address the mental health needs of children victimized by domestic violence.

Julie has a master's degree in counseling with an emphasis on marriage, family and child counseling, and a bachelor’s degree in child development with an emphasis on child mental health, both from California State University, Northridge. She is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists.
