Jinger Alvarez is a Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Program Specialist, where she has been directing the Community School Initiative at Montebello High School since 2020. Upon obtaining her Masters in Social Work from University of Southern California and her California state license in 2006, Jinger embarked upon a 10-year career as a school-based psychiatric social worker with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). In 2017 Jinger was recruited by UCLA to direct a one-year implementation of a UCLA-based social emotional learning program throughout LAUSD, while concomitantly committing to a position as Mental Health Consultant-Expanded Learning for LA’s Best, California’s second largest after-school program, for the following year, where she served until she was recruited by LACOE and currently remains today. In order to continually expand her competency to practice with different populations, Jinger served as a pre- and post-licensure Clinical Social Worker at a private practice, a community mental health agency, and an in-patient hospital. Jinger brings with her extensive exposure to and proven competence working with children and adults from a broad range of cultural backgrounds experiencing a wide range of challenges.
