About

Dr. Michele Roland, a member of the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine (DAYAM) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), has 35 years of experience doing clinical care for adolescents and young adults. Her broad experience has provided her with an opportunity to learn key lessons from youth and their experiences within various systems of care. Whether youth received care while participating in residential job training programs, foster care settings, attending multidisciplinary clinics for youth with chronic health conditions, or at school-based health centers, she has worked hard to address their needs and advance health and wellness to youth that have been marginalized or from communities of color. A little-known fact about her support and care of adolescents includes initiating a branch of a youth development program on the West Coast for girls as the co-founder of the Los Angeles Teenshop, a program that is now in its thirtieth year.

Most recently, she has joined a team of amazing members committed to the training and engagement of CHLA pediatric residents in the evaluation and care of youth with mental health conditions through a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funded project called EMBRACE that recently earned an Innovators in Education Award this year.
