Overview


This training extensively covers substance use in the context of severe mental illness. There is a differentiation of types of substances, prevalence of corresponding addictions, and medical treatment available in community settings. Trends of use in Los Angeles, programs, and resources are also detailed. The medication first model is discussed, in the context of complementary mental health treatment, with an emphasis on building knowledge regarding the types of prescriptions available and how to refer to a medical provider for treatment of co-occurring disorders.
