Overview

Sprouts Professional Development (PD) is a four-part attachment-based and trauma informed training series that explores how to co-regulate with and promote self-regulation in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Although the series was designed to address the needs of young children who have experienced trauma and other early adversities, it is also highly relevant as a universal prevention approach for all young children in early childhood settings.

Sprouts PD was formerly SEEDS Trauma-Informed Care for Infants and Toddlers (4-Part Series), and is still presented by SEEDS (Strategies for Enhancing Early Developmental Success) at UCLA.

Each part of Sprouts PD contains activities and discussions that make for a uniquely engaging professional development experience. Please plan to actively participate throughout the series!

In total, this series provides specialized training in trauma informed care for young children, including:

  • Part 1: Learning how to recognize the types of cues that infants, toddlers, and preschoolers demonstrate
  • Part 2: Practicing how to understand (or seek to understand) the meaning of these cues in light of what we know about early childhood trauma and early adversities
  • Part 3: Preparing to respond in hot moments
  • Part 4: Preparing to respond in cool moments

Sprouts PD is appropriate for participants of all educational backgrounds and functional areas, especially those who work with young children (birth to 5 years old) and families.
