Overview
In this refresher training, we will review the concepts that inform decision-making about whether an individual meets the criteria for grave disability. The course briefly addresses the history and intent of the Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act. We will discuss the kinds of clinical scenarios that can lead to a determination of grave disability. We will review strategies for assessing grave disability and confirming or disconfirming whether grave disability is an appropriate determination. We will leave time for questions and discussion about clinical situations. The course is intended for clinicians and non-clinicians who work with individuals with severe mental illness.
