Homeboy Industries: Wellness: Reducing Stress in the Workplace and for Yourself as an Individual (Module 4)
Overview
Homeboy Industries is a world-class organization that provides hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated people, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of our community.
Practitioners working in the mental health and supportive services fields have the privilege and the potential hazard of hearing and feeling the trauma, emotions, and stress of others. How do we take care of ourselves to be available for others? In this session, we will identify stressors and triggers, learn how to reduce them in the workplace, and make a plan for individual wellness. We will examine short-term stress versus long-term burnout and how working with trauma affects our behaviors. Trauma stewardship is important. Each of us needs to examine our emotional, physical, mental health, social, and spiritual self-care needs to maintain balance and an ability to be present to our clients and those we walk alongside in our work.
