Overview

Schools are part of a community’s social safety net, and their primary function is to support students’ educational needs. Often times, however, school personnel also fill the role of first responders with students and families who face challenges such as housing insecurity, mental illnesses, poverty, substance use, and many other issues. In this session, participants will learn why it is important for schools to strengthen their relationship with supportive networks in the community. Additionally, participants will learn how to create relationships with community partners who can provide supportive services to students and families in need. Important factors to consider when developing relationships with community organizations will be reviewed in order to best meet the needs of students and families.
