Safety and Crisis Prevention Intervention and Response

Overview
This training focuses on components pertinent to safety practices and crisis intervention/prevention practices for field-based mental health and homeless outreach service providers, including preventing a crisis, recognizing a crisis, responding to a crisis, and following up on a crisis. This training also covers common issues associated with providing mental health services in street-based outreach to the homeless, home visits, and urban crime-ridden communities. This training will also describe best practices for identifying and managing issues related to personal space awareness, situational awareness, and exploring the different stages of a crisis: warning signs, assessment, decision-making, communication, and the appropriate interventions to use during each crisis stage. Additional topics include self-care and self-monitoring strategies for the management of feelings during a crisis. Anytime session recorded on October 23 & 24, 2023.
