Overview

This Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) Seminar will provide an overview of what happens when a parent is the subject of a child abuse or neglect investigation in Los Angeles County. First, this presentation will discuss the laws and policies that govern a child welfare investigation. It will then provide an overview of who calls the child abuse hotline and why they call. Ms. Griglio will then give an overview of how an investigation is initiated and what happens during an investigation. This presentation will highlight ways in which an investigation can be traumatizing to a family. Ms. Griglio will detail what a parent’s rights are during an investigation, and how having this knowledge can help them navigate the process in a way that minimizes trauma. This presentation will also provide tips on how to support a parent during an investigation.
