Bridging the Gap: Mending Relational Ruptures to Foster Stronger Connections

Overview
Ruptures are a normal, likely inevitable, and sometimes messy part of working with clients. These can include breakdowns in our bonds with clients and disagreements on how we work together and to what end. Effectively repairing these ruptures can lead to stronger working alliances. This training will explore how to navigate through complex interactions with our clients where we often have inconsistent feedback, interactions can be ambiguous or unspoken, and we all bring our own assumptions and biases to each other. Training activities will include identifying causes of rupture, recognizing signs, and practicing repair skills, including process comments, critical self-awareness, wise affect, and anti-oppressive engagement. This training is intended for field-based mental health and outreach workers in Los Angeles County.
