Overview

According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, it is estimated that more than 20 million people in the United States have a substance use disorder (SUD). Traditional methods of treatment for SUD often leave many individuals who are struggling without care due to their inability to abstain from use or access available treatment options. The introduction of medication-assisted therapy (MAT) to the treatment of substance use disorders offers participants a different route to recovery, and studies have shown increased compliance over a longer period of time. This training will provide an overview of field-based initiation of medications for addiction treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD), alcohol use disorder (AUD), and stimulant use disorder (StUD), including risks and benefits to consider and discuss with patients. This training is intended for field-based mental health and outreach workers in Los Angeles County. Anytime session recorded on May 22, 2025.
