Overview


This training will provide an overview of harm reduction and its application to working with system-involved youth engaging in substance use. The training will focus on applying harm reduction principles that align with the stages of change model. Participants will leave understanding what success looks like in a harm reduction model and ways to apply these principles on an individual, communal, and societal level. Participants will leave understanding how to prioritize youth safety and mitigate risk while maintaining youth autonomy. These strategies will be applied to several case examples of youth involved in the child welfare system, the juvenile justice system, the healthcare system, and the educational system.
