Overview

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based practice that can help clients (and providers!) manage strong emotions, cope with self-harm behaviors, and build healthier relationships. This training will describe the four core skills taught in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), including mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This “workout” will help providers experience DBT skills themselves, and explore how to integrate them meaningfully into practice with clients. First, led by the trainer through a series of guided exercises, attendees will use DBT skills themselves to try to better understand a client’s experience. Then, participants will engage in small group role plays where they will be able to take turns practicing leading other attendees in DBT skills. This training is appropriate for providers with pre-existing knowledge of DBT, as well as those with no prior training. Anytime session recorded on April 8, 2026.
