Julea McGhee, MD, MPH is a public psychiatrist who specializes in the systems-based practice and management of vulnerable populations. She completed her psychiatry residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and received her master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. McGhee’s work as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the county psychiatric emergency rooms at USC Keck School of Medicine and at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA fuels her passion for severe behavioral illness compounded by socioeconomic challenges. Working with the DMH + UCLA Public Mental Health Partnership, she trains homeless outreach workers in a novel approach to treating people with severe mental illness on the streets of Los Angeles. She also supervises psychiatry residents working at the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc. clinics. Dr. McGhee was awarded Teacher of the Year at USC Keck School of Medicine in 2013, the Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy in 2008, and the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award in 2004.
