Overview

This intermediate course is intended to help clinical staff, including pre-licensed PhD/PsyDs, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors, implement culturally responsive practices as recommended by the various professional guilds (i.e., AAMFT, NASW, APA) when addressing Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) in a community mental health setting. Diversity competency will be presented as a critical aspect of all clinical work, and not just a "sub-specialty area". Diversity challenges can impact all aspects of clinical assessment, evaluation, and treatment. Emphasis will be on identifying key systemic and contextual elements that have contributed to the occurrence of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behaviors in diverse populations and how they, in turn, should be integrated into treatment to allow for a holistic approach.
