Overview

This training provides an overview of serious mental illnesses. Attendees will also be provided with information on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR) criteria for these disorders. This training focuses on major psychiatric disorders commonly seen in program settings, including schizophrenia, mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder. The focus includes recent research evidence that supports a recovery vision to help attendees understand how clients who experience psychiatric symptoms can achieve their recovery goals. The training also offers information on the signs and symptoms of each diagnosis and how to identify them. The training also explores the challenging issues surrounding the use of psychotropic medications. Attendees will leave with a more complete picture of serious mental illnesses and a better understanding of how difficult it is to live with these disorders and how to help individuals move forward in their recovery.
