FOCUS Resilience Curriculum for Children and Teens
Overview
Families OverComing Under Stress (FOCUS) is an evidence-based practice that can be used as a preventive intervention. FOCUS is a suite of services; this training is for the group adaptation for children and teens. This training will cover techniques to support resilience skill-building and can be implemented in a small group or school setting. The FOCUS Resilience Curriculum consists of nine interactive modules that help youth learn new skills to overcome common challenges. Five core skills are at the heart of these sessions: emotion regulation, communication, goal setting, problem solving, and managing emotional stress, trauma, and loss reminders. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, FOCUS helps youth learn to apply these skills to manage stressors in their lives. A master's degree in a clinical field, child development, or related field is required. Graduate students may be considered. Delivery of FOCUS requires formal training in the model as well as ongoing model consultation.
