Overview


Clinicians will develop an understanding of the process of critically reflecting on a clinical experience to enhance knowledge and understanding in working with youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Reflection will enable clinical professionals to share knowledge with others, benefit practice, and help clinical staff make sense of challenging and complicated cases. This reflective coaching training will optimize their work practice and improve inter-professional relationships.

The prerequisites for this training are:

  1. Complete the live OR anytime virtual training: Trauma Informed Strategies for Working With Individuals With ID/DD/ASD for Clinical Staff
  2. Complete the live virtual training: Advanced Practice Training for Clinicians Working With Individuals With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)

Trauma Informed Strategies for Working With Individuals With ID/DD/ASD for Clinical Staff

Clinical providers will learn trauma and resilience informed strategies for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID), developmental disabilities (DD), and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). After a review of the foundations and differential diagnoses for ID, DD, and ASD, participants will learn and practice core strategies for working with children, youth, and their families.

Advanced Practice Training for Clinicians Working With Individuals With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)

This advanced practice training will support clinical providers across Los Angeles County in enhancing their clinical skills working with youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Advanced Practice IDD Training will take a deeper dive into core strategies such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) adaptions, enhancing communication, sensory diets, self-regulation strategies, and community asset mapping. A prerequisite for this training is completing the live OR anytime virtual training: Trauma Informed Strategies for Working With Individuals With ID/DD/ASD for Clinical Staff.
