Gender-Affirming Care With Trans and/or Nonbinary Communities
Overview
This training is a workshop series in two parts.
Part one comprises:
- Gender Diversity: Essential Foundations — This first segment will provide the foundations for understanding the diversity of trans and/or nonbinary communities from an intersectional perspective, including systemic barriers and community resilience.
- Respectful and Affirming Interactions — This second segment is focused on skills-building with respect to language, interacting respectfully, and recovering and repairing after mistakes. We will also discuss key considerations within professional relationships with trans and/or nonbinary clients.
Part two consists of:
- Trans-Inclusive Environments — The focus of this final segment of the series is focused on culture shifting, including considerations regarding built environments, electronic communications, and record keeping.
- Trans-Affirming Mental Health Care — Essential skills when engaging in clinical work with trans and/or nonbinary communities.
This training is intended for community mental health providers and outreach workers who provide support to individuals with severe mental health disorders.
