Overview


Clinical providers will learn trauma and resilience informed strategies for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID), developmental disabilities (DD), and autism spectrum disorders (ASD). After a review of the foundations and differential diagnoses for ID, DD, and ASD, participants will learn and practice core strategies for working with children, youth, and their families.

Empirically Supported Treatments in Autism Spectrum Disorder

There are a growing number of empirically supported treatments for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). These treatments have been shown to be effective in improving daily living skills, cognition, social communication skills, and reducing maladaptive behavior. In this module, participants will gain a deeper understanding of four different evidence-based interventions: applied behavior analysis (ABA), naturalistic developmental behavioral interventions (NDBIs), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and psychopharmacology. Notably, ASD treatment should be tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

Reflective Coaching for Clinicians Supporting Individuals With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)

Clinicians will develop an understanding of the process of critically reflecting on a clinical experience to enhance knowledge and understanding in working with youth with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Reflection will enable clinical professionals to share knowledge with others, benefit practice, and help clinical staff make sense of challenging and complicated cases.
