Grave Disability
Overview
The Grave Disability Series was delivered in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health with key collaborators from multiple systems of care. This course is intended for any outreach worker working with individuals who are homeless (i.e., clinicians and non-clinicians) and intends to provide all outreach team members with the foundational concepts necessary to participate in team deliberation and more successfully interact with the systems of care that are involved with grave disability.
These videos begin by detailing the history of grave disability, with a shift to clinical assessment and case conceptualization to consider next steps to support a client’s wellbeing, while also honoring their self-determination. The series highlights navigation of systemic issues, from writing a 5150 more effectively to understanding the options of mental health treatment when hospitalization is not available or cut short.
