Overview

Information about gender-affirming care (GAC) is often focused on medical interventions. However, GAC encompasses far more than that. This training will provide introductory information about providing GAC as a case manager, therapist, or other community mental health provider. This will include an overview of related definitions, guidance on showing respect for clients’ gender identities, and tools for advocating for transgender, nonbinary, and/or gender-nonconforming clients’ needs. Empirical evidence supporting GAC will be presented, including reduced suicidality and improved mental health outcomes associated with GAC access during adolescence and adulthood. Anytime session recorded on May 15, 2025.

Keywords: gender identity, mental health, transgender
