Overview
This Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) Seminar will describe the historical underpinnings of depression treatments for low-income, diverse individuals. The development and adaptation of psychotherapy interventions for various underserved populations will be described. Surprising outcomes from the literature evaluating depression interventions for diverse populations will be presented, including randomized trials and quality improvement interventions within primary care settings. Finally, the development of a pilot intervention for youth living in poverty in the “slums” (the term used by Ugandan researchers) of Kampala, Uganda will be presented. The results of this pilot intervention for depression will be described.
