Overview


In this one-hour training session, Dr. Gennusa will focus on the public health significance of addressing cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in persons living with serious mental illness (SMI). He will provide an overview of CVD risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, being overweight/obese, and tobacco smoking. Dr. Gennusa will provide recommendations on how to explain CVD, how it is diagnosed, and how it is treated in someone living with SMI. He will review some common side effects and how to manage them. Dr. Gennusa will then provide an overview of risk behaviors like inactivity, poor diet, and smoking.
