Paternal Mental Health in Family Health Promotion

Overview
This Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) Seminar will introduce participants to paternal perinatal mental health. It will highlight the ways in which family health is interconnected, and how the consideration and treatment of paternal mental health is necessary in the promotion of family wellbeing. Approximately 10% of new fathers experience perinatal mental health challenges, and in families where a mother is also struggling with her mental health, these rates can increase to nearly 50%. This training will introduce practitioners to paternal perinatal mood and anxiety disorders by helping them develop their ability to 1) identify hallmark signs that a father is struggling and 2) understand the impact paternal mental health challenges have on families.
