  • Recognizing and Managing Anxiety in the Classroom

This course is designed to help educators navigate the nuances involved with recognizing and addressing anxiety and stress in K-12 students. John Piacentini, PhD, ABPP, Director, Center for Child Anxiety Resilience Education and Support (CARES) joins his colleagues, Monica Wu, PhD, Kate Sheehan, LCSW, and Emily Ricketts, PhD in discussing common manifestations of anxiety. Video vignettes engage the learner to better understand various ways in which anxiety may thwart a child’s academic, emotional, and social development. Practical strategies for individual and classroom use are offered for elementary through high school.

  • Assess, Recover, Mitigate, Strengthen (ARMS): A Wellbeing Regimen for Professionals

Assess, Recover, Mitigate, Strengthen (ARMS): A Wellbeing Regimen for Professionals was developed by Dr. Bill Nash, a pioneer and expert in the prevention, recognition, and treatment of moral injury and leading researcher, educator, and clinician in psychological health. This course covers concepts and tools to prevent and recover from occupational moral distress, moral injury, and burnout. It is appropriate for all human service professionals, including those in health care, social services, education, crisis response, and any other role requiring compassionate service to others. The framework is built on three pillars: the National Academy of Science recommendations on preventing mental health disorders, the National Academy of Science’s call to action to address global burnout in healthcare, and the doctrine of Combat and Operational Stress Control.

  • Meeting the Needs of LGBTQ+ People: Best Practices for Affirming Communication

Using respectful, open communication with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+) people improves their mental wellbeing and is one of the most important ways to affirm LGBTQ+ people and support the mental wellbeing of those around you. This course is designed to help guide the principles of supportive, open communication. Natalia Ramos, MD (she/her), and Elizabeth Ollen, PhD (she/her), directors of the UCLA EMPWR Program for LGBTQ+ Mental Health, share expert commentary about providing affirming care to LGBTQ+ people. Practical applications of communication strategies are illustrated through video vignettes.
